Mathieu Van Der Poel

Mathieu van der Poel is a Dutch professional road and cyclocross cyclist who was born on January 19, 1995, in Kapellen, Belgium. He comes from a family of successful cyclists, with his father Adrie van der Poel and grandfather Raymond Poulidor both having enjoyed successful careers in the sport.

Van der Poel first gained prominence as a cyclocross rider, winning the U23 World Championships in 2015 and then going on to win the elite title three times in a row from 2019 to 2021. He is known for his technical skills and his ability to perform on a variety of terrain, including mud, sand, and snow.

In recent years, van der Poel has also established himself as a top road cyclist. He joined the Alpecin-Fenix team in 2020 and quickly made his mark, winning the Strade Bianche and a stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. He also finished fourth in the Tour of Flanders and fifth in the Gent-Wevelgem.

In 2021, van der Poel continued to impress on the road, winning a stage of the Tour de France in spectacular fashion with a daring attack on the final descent. He also won the Dwars door Vlaanderen classic and finished second in the Amstel Gold Race.
